The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) has named John Adey as its new president. Adey, who has worked for the standards and educational association since 2002, has served as interim president for the last three months.
“In his three months as interim president, he has proven his ability to manage a host of projects critical to boating standards development and education,” said George Bellwoar, ABYC board chairman, in a statement. “His priority will now be moving forward the group’s initiatives in boating safety, professional development, and education.”
Adey has served as the association’s technical director, vice president and interim president. Before ABYC, he owned a marine supply and fishing tackle business in New Jersey.
As ABYC technical director, Adey managed major boating safety grants from the US Coast Guard and all ABYC boating standards development for the US and internationally. He is widely respected for his far-reaching technical expertise in boat construction and his ability to work with diverse interests in recreational boating.
