A 21-year-old shipyard employee in Turkey has fallen from a lift bucket while working on the exterior of a yacht under construction. The worker fell from an 8m (26ft) height and was badly injured.

The accident is thought to have happened when a screw on the lift bucket became dislocated. The injured employee was taken to hospital and is now in an intensive care unit where his condition is described as ‘life-threatening’.

The Antalya Free Zone is one of the biggest yacht-building areas in Turkey with a total area of 625,490sq m. More than 50 local and international yacht builders are based in the zone.
