Riviera and Maritimo, two of Australia’s leading luxury yacht builders, both used the opening day of the 2018 Sydney International Boat Show to debut new models that have, or will, be added to existing model series within their respective product ranges.
Riviera held the world premiere of its Riviera 39 Sports Motor Yacht. The 39 Sports Motor Yacht includes multiple entertainer spaces, including a light and spacious saloon, open cockpit and extended flybridge that are recognised features of the of the Riviera Sports Motor Yacht series.
Riviera owner Rodney Longhurst said: “The 39 Sports Motor Yacht provides a compelling entry to the Riviera family. She is a brilliant example of Riviera’s evolution and constant refinement across our five collections."
The lower deck provides sleeping accommodation for five adults in two staterooms. A forward ensuite master stateroom includes a queen-size walk-around double bed, storage, and hull windows on both sides providing plenty of natural light. The bathroom can be utilised as the master ensuite and as the day head. The deck also has a midship stateroom.
Power for the Riviera 39 Sports Motor Yacht comes from twin Volvo Penta D6 IPS 600 turbo diesel engines providing 320kW/435hp each and IPS pod-drives and joystick control.
Riviera is also showing its 72 Sports Yacht, which is currently its largest model. Riviera currently offers 18 different models from 12m-22m (39ft-72ft) across five model collections – the Flybridge range; Sports Yacht; SUV; Sports Motor Yacht design; and Belize Motor Yachts.
Details of Maritimo’s X50 model, which is to be launched at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (SCIBS) next year, is the key focus of the Maritimo stand. The X50 follows on from the X60 launched at SCIBS in May this year and which caused considerable interest and resulted in record sales success, achieving the highest sales record of any boat show in Maritimo’s 15-year history.
Maritimo said: “The X50 and its internationally successful sibling the X60, have re-written the status quo for sport yachts internationally with further breakthroughs in design innovation and technology. The world premiere of the Maritimo X60, the first model in the revolutionary new X-Series range, at the 30th Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show resulted in record sales success.”
Maritimo X-Series lead designer Tom Barry- Cotter, son of Maritimo founder Bill Barry-Cotter, said that other models in the X range are in development but declined to give sizes. He said: “The X series’ innovative design made a strong statement to the industry that Maritimo is a united team committed to further establishing itself as industry leaders continually pushing the boundaries of design and technology.
“We are leading the industry into new design territory of what is possible in sport yacht and motor yacht design and pioneering new thinking and re-writing the rules in every facet of the company,” he added. The Maritimo X50 design incorporates an aft accommodation space accessible from saloon and swim platform deck; a customisable cabin that can be optioned and utilised as a beach club with ensuite, twin single stateroom with ensuite or 3.2m tender garage.
The extensive design input into the X50 and other X series models sees Maritimo pursuing challenges going further than ever before in hull design, power, construction and propulsion which will see the X50 reach speeds in the vicinity of 36kt with exceptional cruising economy, trim and handling characteristics.
A critical performance factor inherent in all X-Series hull design is the ability to neutrally balance the hull through the planing range. Volvo Penta D11 670mhp or 725mhp power units are located further forward to neutrally balance the hull and minimise shaft angle, resulting in increased efficiency from the five-blade Nibral propellers and a flat efficient planing attitude, this is made possible by incorporating additional accommodation aft of the engine-room.
“The X50 will deliver class-leading fuel economy and range, high-speed cruising capabilities and the latest technology from the world leaders in shaft driven performance,” said Barry-Cotter. “The X50 has gone further than ever in the analysis of water flow over the hull. All underwater components have been heavily examined and designed with an obsessive consideration of drag reduction, creating maximum efficiency from the hull profile.
The X-Series has attracted widespread global media and market attention, being embraced by boat buyers, and heading to home berths throughout Australia, New Zealand, North America, Europe and Asia, making it Maritmo’s most successful first release model to date. The base price is A$1.398m for the X50.
