Xtreme Ocean launches X068 explorer sailing cat
Cape Town-based Xtreme Ocean has launched their debut leisure catamaran model, the X068 explorer sailing catamaran.
Xtreme Ocean is the new sister company of South Africa’s KD Marine Design, which is well established in the commercial and superyacht sectors.
The X068 is billed as a semi-custom ‘tough cruising catamaran’ that is ‘environmentally considerate’ both in terms of construction and design.
In a launch statement Xtreme Ocean chief executive Keith Davies said: “First and foremost, we wanted to design a capable world cruising yacht, but we also wanted to see what could be done to reduce the environmental impact of the yacht right the way through its lifecycle.
“Thousands of yachts are scrapped every year because the materials cannot be re-used,” Davies added.
The X068 has a covered exterior helm station, an interior helm station, a large covered cockpit, and ‘generous’ accommodation. “We have brought together our years of experience in the commercial and superyacht sectors to develop an interior that not only is a beautiful and comfortable haven during your journey, but also a practical one,” the company says of the interior design on their website. “Designed to continue looking good, as you continue to log the miles. However, as this is your journey, the interior can be customised to your requirement.”
The launch statement said the aluminium construction was designed to be recycled at the end of the vessel’s life. “Aluminium allowed us to create a strong yet light hull, that could be easily customised. Aiming to reduce the yacht’s carbon footprint, the catamaran was envisaged to rely principally on sustainable energy sources; 30m2 of lightweight Solbian solar panels and two powerful Torqeedo Deep Blue motors capable of acting as hydro-generators while sailing cater to the bulk of the electrical needs,” the statement said.
