Salthouse introduces first outboard-powered Corsair

New Zealand’s Salthouse Next Generation Boats has released details of the first outboard-powered model in its Salthouse Corsair range.

Now built in Taiwan by Hylas Yachts, Salthouse Corsair is marketed in the US under Hylas but still retains the iconic Salthouse name in New Zealand and Australia.

“Much interest in the concept of twin outboard-powered options has been received from the US,” says Dean Salthouse.

“Our initial costing and specification are based around twin 425/375 Yamaha XTO models with the electric steering and docking system for easy manoeuvring and performance.

“Interestingly, our first inquiry came via an Australian client who has had a traditional inboard-powered Corsair 44 before,” Salthouse adds.

With the same interior features, the twin outboard-powered Corsair 44 allows for additional fuel or water and increased range. Salthouse says he expects a top speed of close to 32kt with the 375hp option.

With roughly 30 MK2 versions having Volvo stern legs in the past, the hull performs well in this configuration with the highest speed of 43kt achieved in a custom sports fisher.
