The 40ft model is the first in Elan’s new fast cruising line. The sailing yacht is set to make her first splash on the water this autumn.

Slovenian boatbuilder Elan has expanded its portfolio with the addition the fast cruising line. Branded as the GT range, the first unit to make a splash on the water is the 12m (40ft) GT5.

“After many years of study and design, we are proud to announce the beginning of a new concept in yacht design,” says Elan chief designer Igor Zupan.

The GT claims the new series combines its best design and construction techniques while adopting the advantages of larger yachts.

“The GT range is truly unique in the market in terms of design, performance, safety and comfort” Zupan explains.

Elan says the GT5 is designed with a short-handed crew in mind, making it easy for a crew of two to handle the yacht easily.

The halyards and sheeting are controlled from the helmsman’s position, which keeps the cockpit clean of all lines, ensuring the utmost in comfort and safety on-board.

The yacht also features a bathing platform, options of a cockpit galley equipped with a fridge, grill and other amenities common on much larger yachts.

The Elan Design Team has implemented an inverted saloon layout featuring the galley forward, ensuring optimal utilisation of the yacht’s volume for the most comfortable and innovative saloon in her size range.

The galley forward offers ample storage space with a customizable corner to be equipped individually for each owner. The raised deck saloon provides a bright and spacious living space with ventilation and more than 2m of headroom.

The GT5 is available with a two or three cabin interior layout and a single head featuring a separate shower compartment, and the option of a second head forward, making the owner’s cabin on-suite.

Inspired by Humphreys Yacht Design’s Volvo Ocean Race yachts, Elan has inherited many of the features of these top competitive vessels, such as twin rudders, a high-performance T-shaped keel and chined hull ensuring the least amount of drag. The company manufacturing technique uses the latest vacuum infusion technology.

Founded in 1945, Elan d.o.o is a diversified advanced composites company based in Begunje, Slovenia. The company was purchased by a group of private international investors in the fall of 2015.

Elan’s four main divisions focus on advanced and highly-technical components utilised in renewable energy and other speciality industries, sporting equipment, advanced high-performance racing and leisure sail boats, and engineering solutions for arena and stadium projects worldwide.
