P&O Marinas and marina consultant Fabmar have announced the first edition of the Dubai International Superyacht Summit to take place from February 28 to March 1 in Dubai, UAE. The first edition's theme is ‘The Emirati Riviera: A New World Hub for Yachting’.
According to organiser Fabiana Maccarini of Fabmar: “The first edition of the Dubai International Superyacht Summit will feature UAE and international experts from the superyacht industry and will discuss the opportunities and challenges for the emergence of the Emirati Riviera as a yachting destination, superyacht hub and a winter destination. The Dubai International Superyacht Summit has been organised to address the increasing interest from the nautical community of yacht owners, captains and crews, marine authorities, marina operators, yacht builders, shipyards and maintenance operators, suppliers of services and goods, to meet and share knowledge, information, challenges and to support each other’s interests.”
Touching on the program for the event, Maccarini said: “An overview of the UAE will be given by the local industry in terms of available and planned facilities, existing services and actual challenges. Successful examples of popular yachting destinations, outside of the UAE, will also be presented and discussed. The two-day event will also serve as an occasion to launch new initiatives for the Emirati yachting industry, which will help to make this sector of the UAE maritime industry stronger, and increase the reputation of the country in the wider global community.”
The organisers say that the event will be accompanied by an exciting social programme, providing the opportunity to interact in an informal and relaxed environment, establishing new relationships and reinforcing existing ones.
While the organisers of the summit have not announced the venue, it’s likely to be associated with newly opened P&O Marina at the Mina Rashid Port close to the city.
The UAE has diversiᤙ7;ed its economy with tourism as one of its core pillars, and is also recognised as a global business hub in the Middle East, South Asia, Oceania and East Africa. A number of international sport organisations and events have chosen to base themselves in UAE, either on a permanent or temporary basis.
With many marina developments presently under construction, the country is increasingly becoming a selected destination on the superyacht cruising circuit and offers an alternative wintering homeport to the popular established destinations.
