IBI recently met with Alex Nicholl, business development director for the new Abu Dhabi International Boat Show (ADIBS), to discuss the organiser’s plans.
Speaking to IBI, Nicholl said: “The objective of the show is two-fold: to launch an acclaimed international boat show meeting the requirements of the UAE and international leisure marine and luxury yacht communities; and to promote the local culture and heritage of Abu Dhabi as well as putting Abu Dhabi on the international boat show calendar, positioning it as a great boating destination.”
Talking about the organisation of the show, Nicholl commented: “When we received the go-ahead from the government in March 2017, we had the advantage of a blank sheet on which to develop and grow the Abu Dhabi International Boat Show. We have spent a lot of time listening to and understanding the UAE and international market to ensure what we are delivering is what the industry wants and have adjusted our plans as necessary.
“The show is a new one and the first time the government-owned Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) has organised a leisure marine and luxury yacht show. There have been several other efforts in the past that were not run by the government and we will make this show a successful first-time event. We have already secured the participation of over 100 exhibiting companies from both the UAE and overseas.”
Talking about the strategy for the show, Nicholl said: “We will not compete with the Dubai International Boat Show; ADIBS will complement the Dubai show and be clearly differentiated through creating our own unique identity. Importantly, ADIBS will take place in October at the start of the UAE boating season. The Dubai show usually runs at the end of February.
“We are also creating a section of the show dedicated to high-quality brokerage. The first day of the event, Wednesday the 17th of October 2018, with be exclusive to VIPs, Exhibitor Special Guests and Media. There will be daily events, attractions and onsite activities that will appeal to boating and watersport enthusiasts from Abu Dhabi, the UAE and across the region. There will also be special attractions and entertainment for both Emirati and expatriate families with an affordable entry ticket price. Each night of the show will include an evening spectacular.”
The 2018 Abu Dhabi International Boat Show will take from October 17-20 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre in Abu Dhabi. The show will comprise both an on-water marina section, land exhibits and indoor exhibits in an air-conditioned, semi-permanent structure.
