Attwood Marine says it will invest in a US$2m expansion that will add 80 jobs. Attwood is an equipment division of Mercury Marine in Lowell, Michigan.
Jim Fox, Attwood president, said in a statement that the location is “well-suited to accommodate our accelerated growth plans.
Attwood launched operations in 1893 as a parts maker for horse-drawn carriages and added marine parts in 1905. Brunswick acquired the company from Steelcase Inc in 2003.
The state of Michigan’s Economic Development Corp said that it would support the new addition with a US$492,000 grant. “With the resurgence of the boating industry, we are fortunate that Attwood has chosen Lowell as the place to expand its world-class marine business," said Thad Rieder, senior business development manager of The Right Place economic development program, a local program to grow jobs in the Western Michigan area.
