Over the past two years or more, the Benetti Sail Division has been consistently promoting its new relationship with the Shanghai Jiangnan Shipyard and waiting to secure its first order. The waiting is now over as it has been contracted to build one of the smallest craft in its range of motoryachts.

An order has been placed for one of its Benship 8 models, a 13.5m (45ft) sports cruiser. The 12.5-tonne craft is built of aluminium and has space for up to four guests. It is powered by two Volvo Penta 600 IPS engines of 435hp each, providing a top speed of up to 35kt. Delivery of the yacht is expected in 2017.

The Benetti Sail Division became an independent operation in 1981 but moved to China in an alliance with the Shanghai Jiangnan Shipyard and the SGOG group led by Bruce Lee. The alliance is called ‘Benetti Sail Division Shanghai Shipyard Corporation’.

The Benetti Sail Division markets a range of full displacement yachts, starting with the Benship 8 and working up through seven models to the 60m (197ft) BWA60. Other models include the 90 Extended, the 108RS, 115WT, BWA33, BWA37, BWA42 and BWA 51.

The Benetti Sail Division is headed by Ricardo Benetti. The company has a network of agents in Monaco covering most of Europe, as well as agents in Istanbul, Mexico, Brazil, the US and Canada. The Shanghai Jiangnan Shipyard is a member company of the state-owned shipbuilding group CSSC (China State Shipbuilding Corporation).
