Boat registration in Poland expanded by 4% in 2016 to a total of 1,322 craft, data obtained by local consultancy firm KPMG Polska revealed.
“The yachts that were registered in Poland were predominantly in the small and medium size range,” reads the company’s report.
According to fugures provided by the Polish Sailing Association (PZZ) some 1,077 new motoryachts and 245 sailing yachts were registered in Poland in 2016.
Registration of motoryachts increased by 9.5% compared to 2016, whereas sailing yacht fell by 14.6%
According to KPMG, there are nearly 1,000 companies active in the boatbuilding sector in Poland, but more than 95% of the industry’s output is intended for export sales, mostly to western European countries, but also to other markets in North America, Australia, Asia and the Middle East.
In addition, the Polboat, the Polish Chamber of Marine Industry and Water Sports, has reported that the industry employs a workforce of 35,000 staff.
Poland-based boatbuilders has the capacity to produce about 22,000 vessels per year. The core production is between 6m (20 ft) and 9m (30 ft).
