Boatability, a new concept in the provision of boating opportunities for people of all abilities across the UK, will officially be launched on June 30, 2006.
The south coast company has brought together a fleet of boats that can cater for all levels of experience and ability, including high-performance RIBs, a workboat and purpose-built vessels. These have all been designed to allow easy access and control for people with disabilities, including wheelchair users.
The operational structure of Boatability is based on a system of annual membership points. Divided into Gold, Silver, Bronze, Family and Corporate categories, the points can be used to access a range of options including up to 20 days' usage of any boat in the fleet, discounts on training courses and more.
All boats in the Boatability fleet have been fully inspected and approved by the Marine & Coastguard Agency, receiving an MCA Coding 8.
The company is a recognised Royal Yachting Association Training Centre and is able to offer all customers the option of undertaking a variety of power boating qualifications, including people with disabilities.
Nick Kincart, principal of Boatability, said: "We've already had a huge amount of interest. Specifically we have had a number of schools, local authority-run centres and other not-for-profit organisations who see the benefits of bringing small groups of clients."
The launch will be followed by an open weekend on July 1 and 2 at Port Solent when the public and VIPs will be able to view the boats and take a trip around the marina.
