South African marine product supplier C Dynamics International is looking to expand its footprint in the African boat building industry on the back of two new distribution agreements – with marine AIS specialists Vesper Marine and world leading underwater lighting firm OceanLED.

New company owner Lindsay Weyer, who took over in November last year, told IBI he hopes to target producers outside of the known boatyard areas, in addition to servicing his regular key clients which include several of the top South African blue sea catamaran companies. “Geographically we would also like to expand our leisure and commercial marine footprint. There are definitely more boat builders outside of South Africa – not only in East African locations like Dar Es Salaam, but also around the inland Africa lakes districts as well.”

UK-based OceanLED specialises in underwater lighting, including Surface-Mount, Exchangeable Flush-Mount and 'Thru-Hull' options. New Zealand-based Vesper Marine is a pioneer of new generation marine AIS technology.

C Dynamics International is also a licensed distributor of Hella Marine lighting and Mastervolt power system products, as well as several other complementary brands sold into the South African marine and mobile markets. The company also recently commenced supply of Mastervolt power solution systems to top-end custom catamaran producer Southern Wind Shipyard, based in Cape Town.

Weyer also hopes to expand his footprint in the commercial sector, and has been working with Cape Town-based Nautic Africa, a subsidiary of the Paramount Group. “I'm definitely trying to champion the commercial marine market as well,” he said.

Regarding business relations further north, he said C Dynamics had recently received a significant order from a Dar es Salaam-based company, for OceanLED underwater lights and Mastervolt power products. This was a positive signal of possible future growth beyond South Africa's borders, Weyer said.

He said he believed the company's wide product range – including power management solutions, electrical products, lighting, air conditioning, refrigeration,  solar, tank management systems --  could assist in opening up new markets.
