According to organisers of the Sanya Boating Tourism Marketplace, held during the recent China Spring Festival Holiday, close to 30,000 visitors got out on boats during the seven-day waterfront event.

Although difficult to verify the numbers of participants, it appears to have been a well-supported event, operating over three separate locations, with multiple craft over 30ft offering three-hour rental sessions charged at a rate of RMB 10,000 (US$1,500) – spend that reflects the aspirations of the burgeoning wealthy middle class Chinese to take up recreational pastimes.
