Industry speculation that the Dubai International Boat Show (DIBS) will move venue for the February 2018 event has been confirmed by the show owners, the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) with an announcement on the show web site that the 2018 event will take place on the Dubai Canal in Jumeirah.
The show will re-locate from the old Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) site, the shows home since 2005, to a new location closer to the city and the business center at the mouth of the Dubai Canal with the sea. In typical Dubai fast track style re-development of the old DIMC site into a larger marina and hotel complex has already started, which has required the DWTC to act quickly to find an alternate venue.
The new show site will require the building of a temporary marina to host the exhibitors with yachts. Although the build time is short DWTC are already experienced in building a temporary marina every year at the old DIMC site and Dubai’s track record in completing projects on time is good.
According to the DWTC the new venue will be able to accommodate 15% more boats and yachts as in previous years – with berths for over 100 yachts and boats on water. Boats less than 12 metres, dinghies and personal water craft will be accommodated on land. The considerable number of equipment, engine and service provider exhibitors will be accommodated as before in large temporary air conditioned structures with all services such as electricity, water and sanitation.
IBI understand that the annual Middle East Yachting Conference will also run, as in previous years, at the same time as the show.
DIBS has become the main show and Industry networking event for the Middle East leisure boating market since the show started in 1992 and has been in continuous ownership by the DWTC a Dubai Government entity.
IBI is scheduled to interview the DWTC on further show and conference developments early in the New Year.
