Two yachts and a small boat were destroyed in a fire yesterday at an unnamed shipyard in Turkey’s Antalya Free Zone, reports Doğan News Agency.

The blaze started at 9.30am on Wednesday onboard a yacht that was under construction at the yard. The fire swept through the facility, spreading to other vessels.

Special fire extinguishing teams from the city municipality, regional forest directorate and even riot police brought the blaze under control with minimal loss.

Two yachts of 30m and 25m in length and a small 10m boat were destroyed in the fire. Construction of all three vessels was nearly complete.

There were no casualties in the fire, although three workers were treated for smoke inhalation.

The total financial damage is estimated at US$40m.
