Despite the Hong Kong government’s lack of interest in what the yacht and superyacht sectors have to offer, the Hong Kong Gold Coast International Boat Show is expected to fully reflect the country’s role as a mature yachting hub when it opens its doors to the public tomorrow. As the biggest boating event in the region, over HK$1bn in boats and gear will be on display.
Now in its 15th edition, the Gold Coast show is established as a leading regional event and in 2015 it will continue to promote the theme of ‘Affordable Luxury’. This emphasises the accessibility and diversity of Hong Kong’s ever-growing boating lifestyles – from affordable, fun weekend cruisers for under HK$100,000 to the indulgent, pure luxury of European superyachts exceeding HK$50m.
Commenting on the event, Robert Blythe, general manager of the Gold Coast Yacht and Country Club, said: “This year the Hong Kong Gold Coast Boat Show offers a comprehensive array of dealers, yachting retailers and industry information sources. We welcome boat lovers from all over Asia and Hong Kong to join us at the club and explore the best of what Asia’s yacht scene has to offer. We’ll have over 60 local and international exhibitors, along with over 70 yachts.”
Among key launches at the show will be the world premiere of the Sanlorenzo SL106 Special Edition yacht, which, like its smaller sister the SL95 Special Edition, has been specially styled for the China market. The SL106 combines Italian heritage and style with an understanding of Asia’s discerning tastes.
Also on display will be the Ferretti Yachts 870 Tai He Ban, which is one of a series of Tai He Ban series yachts geared for the Asian market. At the Singapore Yacht Show last week, week Ferretti CEO Alberto Galassi commented that the company would be holding important talks regarding the proposed plan to build yachts for China in Zhuhai.
In terms of sailing yachts, the largest at the Gold Coast show will be the 18.9m (62ft) Moody 62. The yacht offers panoramic views from the cockpit, along with a smart interior layout and deluxe finish.
