Leading Philippine superyacht refit and repair company, HYS Yachts, is expanding its activities through its appointment as the exclusive dealer for Sunseeker and the building of a new floating dock.

HYS, based in Subic Bay, has recently been signed up as the Sunseeker dealer for the Philippines which built on its previous association of being the service centre for the Asian country.

Mark Prangnell, president of HYS told IBI: “We became the Sunseeker service centre for the Philippines sometime ago and then we decided to become the dealer. We signed the dealer agreement about a month ago. We have already sold a Sunseeker 95 and a Sunseeker 76 and we are currently in negotiation with a number of other buyers.”

In a move to expand HYS’s capability to handle larger yachts, the company is currently constructing a new aluminium floating dock. “We started work on the dock about two weeks ago and it wioll be completed by July next year. The dock will have a lifting capacity of 500 tonnes but to start with we will restrict it to 400 tonnes. It will allow us to handle superyachts up to about 45m (148ft),” Prangnell added.

“We work on yachts over 40m (131ft) and the dock is to help us meet a growing demand for larger facilities,” he told IBI. “The dock represents an investment of $1.2m. More and more yachts are visiting the Philippines each year.”

Formed over 15 years ago, HYS has developed a specialisation in converting commercial vessels into yachts. Alongside this it has undertaken yacht repair and refit work which it is now looking to expand to combat a downturn in the conversion market because of the large number of yachts available for sale around the world.
