The International Marine Certification Institute (IMCI) has named Simon Chen as its new inspector for China. With offices located in Hong Kong and China, Chen will provide timely and efficient services for customers in Asia including China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Japan as well as South East Asian countries.

Chen has worked in the marine field for more than 15 years as a chartered engineer for the British Engineering Council and is a fellow member of the Royal Institute of Naval Architects. With practical knowledge stemming from shipyard experience, he has knowledge of yacht production and understands how to build yachts according to the ISO and classification standards.

Before joining IMCI, Chen worked on ship design, structure calculations, stability calculations, drawings, technical construction file composing, owner’s manual composing, and helped shipyards to obtain CE certification for more than 100 boats.

Headquartered in Brussels, Belgium, IMCI is the EU notified body to perform CE-certification according to the Recreational Craft Directive (RCD) 2013/53/EU. It was founded in 1993 and now has more than 2,600 clients in more than 70 countries.
