The UK-based events and information services business Informa has completed the purchase of its rival UBM in a £3.9bn deal to create one of the largest exhibition and business information services companies in the world. The combined business will operate over 400 event brands covering numerous interest sectors including 24 of the top 250 exhibitions in the US.

As far as boat shows are concerned, this creates a group of seven shows under the same ownership comprising the Monaco Yacht Show, Shanghai China International Boat Show, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Yachts Miami Beach, the Palm Beach International Boat Show, St Petersburg Power and Sail Boat Show and the Sarasota Suncoast Boat Show.

Informa bought the five latter shows in a US$133m-dollar acquisition from Active Interest Media last year and has owned the Monaco yacht show since 1990. In the past, Informa also owned and managed the Abu Dhabi Yacht Show but withdrew from this event in 2014.

UBM originally started the Shanghai International Boat Show with its subsidiary in China, UBM Sinoexpo, in 1996.
