Informa, co-organisers of the Miami Yacht Show, have said that next year’s event will take place in downtown Miami. With 500 new and brokerage yachts, the show has been held on Collins Avenue on Miami Beach for 30 years.
The number of visitors seemed to be much lighter this year, according to several exhibitors. The show is also a long distance between the Miami International Boat Show (MIBS) on Key Biscayne following that show’s move from the Miami Beach Convention Center in 2016.
Organisers gave ease of access and proximity to MIBS as one of the reasons for the move. "The show will also be better positioned for growth with additional land space to enhance and expand VIP lounges and add entertainment and additional concession options, as well as benefit from the proximity to Island Gardens Deep Harbour for yachts up to 400ft,” said Andrew Doole, general manager of Informa, the Miami Yacht Show's co-owner and producer.
The new show will be held on waterfront property north of downtown Miami next to the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts and Sea Isle Marina. The property is owned by Resorts World Miami LLC.
The show's product mix will continue to feature new and brokerage yachts, with more on-land exhibit space for luxury components like exotic cars and private aircraft in the new location.
Informa did not say how many yachts the new venue would accommodate but said that the relocation is also dependent on obtaining the proper state and federal permits.
