Luigi Matarazzo, who has worked at the Italian state-owner shipbuilder Finacntieri for 27 years, has been appointed senior executive vice president of the group’s Merchant Ships division. This arm of the group has responsibility of building superyachts and special ships.

During his career with Fincantieri, Matarazzo has held various roles within the company’s Merchant Ships business unit and at corporate level. Prior to this new appointment, he was executive vice president, New Building, a post he had held since March 2016.

In his new role, Matarazzo will oversee the builder group’s cruise strategy and planning, reporting directly to Fincantieri CEO, Giuseppe Bono.

As part of this role, Matarazzo will oversee the operations of the Vard Group, which is currently building the largest superyacht known to be under construction – the 182.6m (600ft) REV Ocean.

Fincantieri is not currently building any superyachts. Matarazzo will oversee the business activities of both Fincantieri and Vard, in addition to marketing, design, operations and all the group’s merchant shipyards.
