One of western Canada’s largest in-water boat shows is moving to a new venue this spring, having run out of space at its former location.
The popular Victoria Inner Harbour Boat Show will move from the waterfront of British Columbia’s capital city to a new location in the community of Sidney, about 25km up the coast near the Victoria airport. As part of its move to a new host venue at the Port Sidney Marina, the event is simultaneously being rebranded as the BC Boat Show.
Owned and operated by the British Columbia Yacht Broker’s Association, the show was originally launched in Sidney, and moved to the Victoria waterfront 12 years ago. Organisers note that while the former downtown Victoria location brought many benefits, the event has simply outgrown the available space.
“The move has generated a great deal of enthusiasm and interest,” says show manager Steven Threadkell. “The Victoria Inner Harbour was a wonderful location with great visibility and a ton of walk-by traffic, but the simple fact is the show has been growing steadily and we need more room than that site can provide. Moving to Port Sidney Marina will give us that, along with easier access and parking. The tides during the show period will be about two-and-a-half feet so it will be a bit of a jigsaw puzzle to fit it together, but we should be able to accommodate up to 200 boats, including larger deep-draft vessels.”
Launched in 1990, the event has long been considered a strong-selling show that caters to serious buyers. “We have been very careful with targeting our market demographic,” says Threadkell. “We employ a professional media communications firm to ensure everyone is aware of the new location, and have received a tonne of positive feedback so we’re excited and looking forward to opening day.”
The BC Boat Show will be held at the Port Sidney Marina from May 3-6, 2018.
