An additional link in Ireland's necklace of coastal marina and pontoon facilities has been made, thanks to the completion of installation work at Cape Clear, County Cork – one of Europe's most westerly harbours.

Pontoons to the value of €200,000 are now in place at the West Cork island's north harbour. The facility was installed by leading Irish pontoon supplier, Inland and Coastal Marina Systems Ltd.

Under the 2017 fishery harbour and coastal infrastructure capital programme, Irish Junior Minister Andrew Doyle told the Dail Harbour's debate he had allocated €720,000 for maintenance and development works at the Island's North Harbour.

The new pontoon is a welcome addition in the popular harbour for both commercial and leisure craft. Cape Clear's berths are added to the 40–berth marina installed this year at nearby Bantry Bay, also in County Cork. As such they are valuable aquatic tourism assets for boaters exploring the 'Fastnet Coast'.
