Sweden’s Nimbus Boats has entered the aluminium boat market by investing in Alukin, a small producer of fully welded aluminium boats.
Based in Norrtälje, north of Stockholm, Alukin has seen steady growth in recent years, with sales up by around 30% in 2017. Nimbus will act as part-owner of the company, but will not take a majority shareholding.
“For Nimbus, this is an important step in our widening of products,” says Jan-Erik Lindström, CEO of Nimbus Boats Sweden AB. “We can now offer aluminium boats for both pleasure and commercial users through our dealers.”
Maria Nikula, an Alukin part-owner, says: “We see big advantages through an alliance with Nimbus and their well-established dealer network. This means we can make our boat sales simpler with test drives and boats on display at more places, which will also open the export market for us.”
Nimbus dealers will focus on sales of Alukin pleasure boat models. Alukin will continue to sell their professional boats in the Alukin Work range from the factory and head office in Norrtälje, as well as B2B and sales to authorities.
In the new organisation, Maria Nikula will be CEO with brand responsibility for Alukin. Peter Nikula, former CEO, takes the role of production manager.
