Brian Staton, a long-time marine industry veteran from the US, passed away suddenly on September 3.
At the time of his death, Staton was vice president of marine electronics manufacturer Krill Systems Inc. His career in the marine industry, however, stretched back to the 1980s when Staton worked at Sound Marine in Seattle, Washington.
Staton then went on to a long career at Simrad, dating back to 1983, where he worked his way up the ranks from a regional sales manager to general manager and then president of Simrad North America from 1996-2006. He was also elected to the Simrad board of directors.
When Navico Inc purchased Simrad, Staton remained as a vice president at Navico until 2009 when the offices moved from Seattle to Tulsa. After a brief stint at Power & Motoryacht, he joined Ship Equip as manager of business development and, finally went on to his role as vice president of Krill Systems Inc.
Staton was bestowed with many professional honours, including being elected chairman of Navico Canada Ltd, serving on the Board of Directors of Simrad Inc, and being elected chairman of B&G North America.
