US boatbuilder Outer Reef Yachts has opened a new sales centre in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.
Outer Reef’s Latin American sales team, located in the new retail centre, will be led by Jaime Borda. The Cartagena area was particularly attractive to Outer Reef as it is a growing centre for business, tourism, and the hub of the Caribbean yachting community, as it is close to turnkey service facilities and overall commerce.
“We chose to continue our company’s growth in Cartagena, given that in the last five years the city has become a prominent location in the Latin American market as a burgeoning commercial and residential real estate centre for Central and South Americans,” says Outer Reef president and CEO Jeff Druek.
“Many of our clients in Latin America see Cartagena as the heart of yachting activity, with magnificent views reachable within minutes of the inlet.”
According to Data Monitor Financial 2014, the Colombian wealth market’s value is forecasted to grow robustly during 2011-2015, second only to the Brazilian market, out of the countries studied in the database. The number of affluent individuals is forecasted to grow at a compounded rate of 10.6% over the same period.
“Cartagena offers both a strong home base marina for Latin America’s elite yachting community and is a convenient location, offering a myriad of services to a diversified group of yacht owners, including the strong and growing demographic of clients from surrounding Latin American countries including Panama, Brazil, Mexico and Argentina,” says Jaime Borda in a statement.
Earlier this month, Outer Reef announced plans to launch a new range of contemporary, European-styled, semi-displacement long-range yachts in early 2015. The new Trident Series yachts will be built in Taiwan for North, Central, South American, Asian and Australian deliveries.
