The first edition of the Penang Rendezvous opens in Malaysia tomorrow and runs until July 29 at the Straits Quay Retail Marina in Penang. Organised by Luxuo, the the new luxury lifestyle event includes yachts as a key element, as well as luxury cars, art, fashion, entertainment and food with an interactive approach.

Luxuo anticipates that more than 20 yachts and one seaplane will comprise a large portion of the Rendezvous. Leading yacht partners include Pen Marine, Simpson Marine and Hong She Marine.

Pen Marine, led by Oh Kean Shen, is a leading yacht dealer and services company including brands such as Princess Yachts, Jeanneau, Leopard Catamarans and Amel. In Malaysia, Simpson Marine works for Monte Carlo Yachts, Beneteau Oceanis and Gran Turismo, and Lagoon Catamarans. Hong Seh Marine acts for Ferretti Group brands and Cranchi.

Additional highlights visitors can expect include convoys from Ferrari Owners Club members, and the Eastern & Oriental Berhad Sunset Cocktail Party.

The Rendezvous is designed as a family event and as part of this promoting the marine lifestyle and the benefits of boating and yachting is key to the event’s strategy.

Also the Rendezvous provides an opportunity to highlight what Malaysia has to offer in terms of marine leisure. The country has a maritime heritage of which yachting is a part and it boasts a strong marina infrastructure as well as cruising grounds and a sizeable number of marine businesses to support and help boaters. The Rendezvous can contribute to this as Malaysia does not have an annual boat show as such.

Luxuo over the past two years has run Rendezvous at Phuket and Singapore. Earlier this year it was announced that the company will work with the organiser of the Singapore and Thailand Yacht shows to hold a single event in each country to focus more strongly on the leisure marine sector.
