Riviera, Australia’s largest boat and yacht builder, is returning to the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (SCIBS) for 2018. The SCIBS organisers said in a statement: “As one of the first exhibitors to sign up for the 2018 show, the iconic Gold Coast-based manufacturer will return with full force, bringing with it an inspiring multimillion-dollar showcase including one world premiere model.”
Officially launching the 2018 event last week, SCIBS general manager Johan Hasser said: “We are thrilled to have Riviera return for what was already gearing up to be a bumper anniversary show from May 24 to 27. We are excited to announce Australia’s renowned boating brand Riviera is back on board for the 30th anniversary of SCIBS. Riviera is a major force in the global marine industry and we are pleased to have them join a host of leading motoryacht brands at next year’s show.”
Having launched more than 5,200 motoryachts over its 37-year history, Riviera’s display will represent the brand’s five distinctive model collections – the SUV, Flybridge, Sports Motor Yacht, Sport Yacht and the Belize motoryacht range.
Riviera owner and chairman, Rodney Longhurst, commented: “The company is excited to be returning next year to celebrate the show’s 30th anniversary alongside the rest of the marine community. SCIBS is the premium boat show in Queensland and the entire Riviera family is looking forward to being back and playing a part of this world-class event.”
The annual Riviera and Belize Festival of Boating will be held at the same time as SCIBS. Since its last appearance five years ago, Riviera has designed and launched 12 new models.
Longhurst reported: “Over the past five years, we have created 12 new models and launched two entirely new motoryacht designs with our class-defining, long-range 68 and 72 Sports Motor Yacht Collection and our sporty and adventurous SUV Collection featuring the 445, 525 and 575 models.”
He added: “We are excited to share our significant achievements over the past five years with SCIBS visitors, who will have the opportunity to step aboard selected new models and experience first-hand the latest in our industry-leading marine technology, innovation and luxury appointments.
Part of the reason that Riviera is returning to SCIBS is the fact that the Gold Coast International Boat Show and Marine Expo is not being held this year. This event is held at the Gold Coast City Marina & Shipyard, where Riviera has its manufacturing facility.
Riviera’s Brand & Communications Director, Stephen Milne, told IBI: “As you know the Gold Coast International Boat Show and Marine Expo was a growing and successful boat show.
The 2017 show was the seventh edition and was clearly the largest staged with over 230 exhibitors, over 600 boats on display and more than 23,000 visitors.”
“In fact,” he added, “over the seven-year period more than 140,000 boating enthusiasts were welcomed to the Gold Coast Marine Precinct and the show is widely credited with cementing the precinct as the boating industry capital of Australia. The Marine Expo was originally founded by industry leaders to help restore growth and stability to the highly GFC-affected marine industry.”
Milne continued: “On that account alone, the Marine Expo has delivered for a great many of the shows loyal exhibitors. Escalating demand for new boats, shipyard refits, maintenance and repair works, coupled with the inability to expand the current footprint of the growing show, had all contributed to the halting of the show effective 2018.”
He pointed out: “Regarding the Riviera and Belize Festival of Boating, this will be conducted in 2018 to coincide with the Sanctuary Cove dates of May 24-27 and will be the seventh edition of the festival. Pre-registration for Riviera owners is now open for owners to receive the full educational and entertainment program well ahead of its public release.
The four-day programme will see over 30 individual boating educational seminars and on-water workshops and personalised factory tours all conducted by the highly respected Riviera expert team at Riviera’s waterfront facility – the largest luxury motoryacht building facility in the southern hemisphere.
SCIBS 2018 will be held at the Sanctuary Cove Resort and it annually attracts around 40,000 visitors. The 30th edition will have around 300 exhibitors.
