The China International Boat Show - Shanghai (CIBS) will be leaving its existing venue and changing its traditional April dates for the spectacularly designed and massive National Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Next year’s show is scheduled for June 20-23 and the new venue is located in the western part of Shanghai, some 18km from its previous location at the International Expo Centre in the Pudong district near Century Park.

The new exhibition centre is very close to Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport and railway station, which should facilitate access domestically and from abroad.

Exhibitors will now benefit from a 28,000sq m pillar-free hall and there will also be a lifestyle show being held concurrently. Three other trade shows for prominent businesses and professions will be hosted at the same time in the spacious complex, which should help drive additional, well-qualified attendance for the boat show.

Shanghai’s boat show was the first such exhibition to be launched in China back in 1996 and maintains its position as country’s primary indoor show. It has a strong fishing and diving element which caters for the increasing interest in inland and coastal recreational fishing, which is helping to drive the demand for smaller and medium-sized motorboats and outboard engines during a period when sales of luxury yachts, while improving, are still relatively slow.

Major foreign companies such as Brunswick and Beneteau were prominent at the 2018 show, and if the market improvement is sustained it seems likely that several other leading foreign brands will be represented next year.
