Sydney, Australia-based brokerage house Ocean Alliance has announced an interesting development for the small yet pristine South Pacific island nation of New Caledonia with the grant of the first commercial charter licence for the yacht Masteka 11.

Jeni Tidmarsh, a superyacht charter broker at Ocean Alliance said;

“New Caledonia is an absolute charter paradise. The water and islands are breathtaking, the people welcoming, the food wonderful. It's a delicious blend of French and Melanesian culture and the professional crew on board Masteka II convey that ease and warmth of island living. New Caledonia is the latest in a series of the South Pacific nations which have opened up to international superyachts looking to charter. Already a region which is a perennial favourite of yacht owners and charterers, Ocean Alliance expects Masteka II and New Caledonia to be extremely popular”.

According to the Ocean Alliance charter manager Ms Laurie Foulon:

“Ultimately, the charter licence is a test case for New Caledonia who see the benefit in adding superyachts to the tourism offering but in a controlled and sustainable way. We expect Masteka II will experience strong interest to charter the incredible waters of New Caledonia as she is the only international yacht which can do so at a level of service and luxury expected by avid charter clients,”.

Attendees at the launch of the charter operation included the New Caledonian minister for Tourism, the Australian consul general to New Caledonia, and the president of Noumea Chamber of Commerce. Commenting on their presence Joachim Howard, managing director of Ocean Alliance said;

“It shows the commitment the country has to working with the superyacht industry when such senior government officials make the time to meet with industry participants and media”.

Masteka II completed an extensive refit in November before heading to New Caledonia.  Launched in 2009, she is 37 metres in length with accommodation for 12 guests in five suites.
