The membership of the Superyacht Builders Association (SYBAss) has fallen to 22 following the departure of Pendennis Shipyard and Vitters.
In respect of Pendennis it was the only member from the UK. Theo Hooning, general secretary of SYBAss, told IBI’s sister publication Superyacht Business: “Their leaving reflects changing circumstances.”
Toby Allies, Pendennis’s sales and marketing director, told SB: “Our plans did not fit with the direction SYBAss is going in so that is why we left.”
Pendennis is currently engaged in a multi-million expansion plan to significantly expand capacity at its Falmouth yard while at the same time still building and refitting superyachts.
At Vitters Shipyard, managing director Louis Hamming made a similar comment. He told SB: “Our plans at Vitters and the present strategy of SYBAss are not the same and that is the reason we decided to leave.”
