Falmouth, UK-based Armada Engineering Ltd is planning to accelerate its international activities, of which the launch of a new website and the launch of new services are integral parts. The company had an MBO in 2017, which brought in a new management team and additional financial resources.

Dating from 1989, Armada Engineering was formerly called Armada Marine Hydraulics. The company is a marine hydraulics specialist servicing the yacht market as well as commercial marine and naval vessels. A spokesman told IBI: “All of our activities are related to yachts and superyachts. We work very closely with Pendennis Shipyard and their refit projects.

“All of our work with yachts involves refit,” he added. “We recently worked with Pendennis on the refit of the superyacht Aquila, with Armada working on its advanced hydraulics systems. The company has a strong international reputation and we sent engineers worldwide to meet customer needs.”

Over the past six months, Armada Engineering has been strengthening its team and expanded its core range of services. This includes the recent launch of a new website plus it has signed up dealership deals with such leading brands as John Deere, Yanmar and Shire.

Armada offers the yacht and other marine markets a comprehensive portfolio of services covering hydraulic design, manufacture, installation, testing and maintenance. For many of the company’s tasks it provides bespoke solutions, designed to meet specific challenges for its customers. To deliver these, Armada has to constantly develop innovative designs which expand the boundaries of what can be achieved with hydraulic engineering.

Armada says: “Our ultimate goal is to deliver highly-efficient, trouble-free and cost-effective hydraulic systems for our customers. Apart from the dedicated marine markets, Armada is also expanding its client base to include other commercial markets such as shipyards, commercial fishing, renewable energy, oil and gas, mining, construction and agriculture.

To service its clients Armada designs and builds its own equipment at a purpose-built, 10,000sq ft facility in Falmouth. The site also includes extensive repair and testing facilities.

Managing director Joff Collins says: “Over the years, we have been involved in a number of ground-breaking projects across sectors as diverse as superyachts, commercial shipping, marine renewables, oil & gas, and military vessels.

“Taking superyachts as just one example, we designed the hydraulic starting system for the world’s fastest superyacht, which is owned by the Aga Khan. There is huge potential for our business to expand its superyacht customer base across Europe and further afield. We have really only scratched the surface of what could be achieved.”
