What’s On Xiamen reports that 1,069 people have obtained yacht operating licenses in Fujian Province, China. The website said that four out of five yacht training centers are located in Xiamen, where more than 900 licences were issued.
Wu Wei, director of the Crew Management Department of Fujian Maritime Safety Administration, said that the island is among the top three yacht training centers in the country. Xiamen currently has more than 80 yacht-related businesses, including 10 boatbuilding facilities and 25 brokerage firms. There are 24 marine equipment manufacturers as well as 15 yacht clubs.
Wu Wei said that the 2014 sales for boats and yachts was ¥1.2bn. Turnover from yacht charter companies was about ¥115m, with sales of marine equipment being about ¥300m.
The Wuyuanwan Marina in Xiamen is the largest in southeastern China, with more than 210 boats that stay berthed in the marina year-round. The marina has plans to expand to 500 berths.
