Dometic Marine has announced that the new Lagoon 630 motoryacht is the first vessel to be equipped with its smart touch cabin control.

The Dometic Smart Touch is a full-colour, marine touch-activated thermostat and system control for a boat’s air conditioning system. The unit was supplied to the French catamaran builder for the successful debut of its 63-foot motoryacht at this year’s Cannes Boat Show.

Yann Masselot, sales director for Lagoon, comments: “Our boats are getting bigger and bigger, and as they increase in size, the air conditioning becomes more important. By choosing Dometic, we know we will have a reliable and efficient system on board. Furthermore, the new Smart Touch display offers a more modern design and is much more user friendly.”

The touch-sensitive, graphical thermostatic control is the first to be specifically designed for marine HVAC application and offers users an easy and enjoyable way to experience the air conditioning and unprecedented flexibility in managing the cooling of the vessel.

The control system ensures boat owners will no longer have to step into a hot, uncomfortable interior as they will now be able to schedule temperature settings based on days and times.

Dometic fitted the new Lagoon model with six of its latest smart touch display panels. Two panels are sited near the chart table to control the two new Dometic AU-Series fan-coils needed for the main saloon and there is also a display panel in each of the four cabins.

The system comes with the full set of options, including the Chilled Water Master Controller (CWMC), a microprocessor-based controller which can provide central monitoring and coordination for up to six chillers via two LCD displays on board. Further options include Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) and also CanBus connectivity for remote and interconnected control via a network, enabling the temperatures in separate cabins to be adjusted from a convenient area such as the helm and allowing remote control if the boat network is connected to the internet.

Julien Lefeuvre, head of marine OEM – EMEA, comments: “The Smart Touch Cabin Control brings the comforts of home to boat owners and helps them make the most of their marine air conditioner. They can now step into comfort, instead of into stuffy, stifling heat.”

To provide a total cooling capacity of 96,000 BTU/hr, HVAC specialist Dometic fitted the Lagoon 630 Motor Yacht with two 48,000 BTU capacity Dometic TWC (Tempered Water Chiller) Compact Chillers, located in the engine room. The equipment includes Dometic’s new AU-Series Air Handlers, including a DC version for the saloon, which is a large area requiring two fan-coils for each of the starboard and portside saloons.

In addition, the boat is also fitted with Dometic’s new stainless steel CRD65 drawer fridge.

Following the world premiere of the Lagoon 630 in Cannes, the yacht was presented at Genoa Boat Show, and will be exhibited at the Barcelona show later this month before crossing the Atlantic to the Miami Boat Show in February 2015 and then continuing across the Pacific to be exhibited at the Hainan and Singapore Boat Shows in April 2015. The new model was designed by naval architects Van Peteghem-Lauriot Prévost, and the Nauta Design studi
