Marine connectivity specialist Buzz Wireless is offering UK boaters 4G connectivity on a monthly contract, all for the fraction of the price of VSAT.
The Hubba Wave is a data and WiFi router device that provides 4G connectivity for coastal cruising up to 15 miles offshore. The device is also ideal for inland waterway use.
Accessed by laptop, tablet or smartphone, Hubba Wave is loaded with 40GB of data per month and unlimited phone minutes. The system is supplied on a 24-month contract for a one-off cost of £39.95 plus VAT and a monthly charge of £39.95 plus VAT, which reduces to £29.95 when the contract is renewed.
Hubba Wave will accept all WiFi-connected devices on-board and has the additional benefit of a plug-in telephone handset that can be used as a fixed boat phone with unlimited minutes to 01, 02, 03 and standard mobile numbers. “This phone usually has better connectivity than a mobile phone due to the antenna on the Hubba Wave, so can be used further offshore,” says the company.

Router box, aerial, all cables, the handset and 40GB of data per month are all included in the monthly charge.
