Seawind Catamarans recently celebrated the factory launch of the first unit in its new Seawind 1600 range. The team in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam will now complete the commissioning and rigging of Seawind’s new flagship performance catamaran before heading offshore for a week of sea trials.

The Seawind 1600 will then be put through a sea crossing to Singapore, being captained by project manager and master shipwright Mark Waller. This will give the team an opportunity for a thorough shakedown before the yacht, now named Northstar, is handed over to new owners.

Designed by naval architect Reichel Pugh, the Seawind 1600 is a 52ft catamaran that offers bluewater cruising with superyacht comfort, the builder claims. It features simple sailing systems, twin protected helms and a large open cockpit space, making it perfect for offshore sailing.

Seawind is an Australian brand of cruising sail and power catamarans with over 30 years’ experience building multihulls, charter boats and cruising yachts. Production takes place at Seawind’s manufacturing division, Corsair Marine, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
