Rechargeable wireless remote offers full helm control for single through quint engine installations

Yamaha Marine’s US Business Unit unveiled a new wireless control feature for its Helm Master EX boat control system Wednesday at the Discover Boating Miami International Boat Show, giving boat operators “freedom to move around the boat while remaining in complete control at all times” according to the firm.

“This innovative feature of Helm Master EX has the ability to transform the boating experience with precision, automation and smart functionality,” said Yamaha Marine US Business Unit president, Ben Speciale. “In a nutshell, the new wireless control gives captains the opportunity to make the most of their time on the water.”

Yamaha’s new Helm Master EX boat control system is said to offer full helm control from anywhere onboard a vessel

Available in single through quint configurations, the new wireless control is compatible with all Helm Master EX joystick functionality, autopilot control and man overboard functions. Single-handed operation is possible thanks to a dedicated fingertip button.

An integrated man overboard system comes with one Captain and one passenger fob, with the capacity to support up to eight fobs in total. The rechargeable unit runs for up to eight hours per charge, with a companion charging cradle able to install anywhere onboard with a DC power feed. The control is expected to begin shipping in autumn 2025.

Yamaha also took the opportunity to provide an update on its progress in developing the concept hydrogen powered outboard unveiled at last year’s Miami show, including the commencement of on-water testing.

“Our hydrogen outboard concept is on the water now, and we’re learning more about how to optimise its performance every day,” said Speciale. “We believe a multiple technology solution is the best way to achieve cleaner products on the water, and hydrogen represents one of those pathways within our product line. We’re optimistic about the future of hydrogen in the marine industry, and we look forward to sharing specific performance data as it becomes available in the coming months.”

Built on Yamaha’s 450-horsepower XTO Offshore platform, the H2 outboard is part of Yamaha’s strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by deploying multiple technology solutions. The company’s interest in hydrogen technology began in 2003 with early research into alternative energy solutions aimed at reducing environmental impact.

The Miami International Boat Show runs through February 16 at six venues across Miami and Miami Beach. IBI will deliver daily reports including key product launches and new business developments. Want to share your news? Email editor Ed Slack at ed@ibiplus.co.uk.
