Marine equipment manufacturer KZ Marine Group in New Zealand has expanded its KZ Racefurler range with the addition of the KZ25 Bottom Up Furler and KZ25 Xtreme Head Swivel. These are KZ Marine’s largest ever furlers, expanding the range out to 25T safe working load (SWL) with a break load (BL) of 45T.
With yachts continuing to increase in size this new products will help meet the demands of the world’s largest yachts, the company claims.
“As performance-focused yachts and race boats continue to evolve, delivering high strength, low-weight furling solutions is more important than ever,” says Keryn McMaster, brand manager of KZ Racefurlers. “These two new additions to our range will now allow us to serve an even wider range of yachts.”
Produced at KZ Marine Group’s New Zealand facility, the KZ25 furler provides the smoothest, fastest furling for larger yachts. An evolution of KZ’s proven furling systems the increase in size sees no compromise to strength or reliability.
The KZ25 Head Swivel is ‘Xtreme’, with all stainless steel machined parts replaced with titanium in order to save weight without losing strength, making it an ideal choice for performance yachts.
This innovative change sees the unit weight drop to 3,540 grams, a saving of almost 2kg when compared to the 5,420 grams standard version.
The first of these new models are already in action, having recently been shipped to Finland for the first Nautor’s Swan flagship Swan 115 sailing superyacht. The yacht is currently being sail tested prior to delivery to her owner.
KZ Marine worked together with Mike Toppa of North Sails, sailmaker to the yacht, to ensure a complementary system.
“The 25T furler used on the Swan 115 was utilised for the delivery jib, which set on a stand alone luff cable which plugged into the mast lock with an under deck ram for tensioning,” explains Toppa.
“The yacht has a lot of righting moment and our membrain studies show luff loads up in the low 20 ton range; KZ Racefurlers had the answer with the new 25T furler and swivel. It was big gear that worked perfectly.”
Located in Auckland, KZ Marine was founded in 1992. The company specialises in rigging systems, in-boom furling mainsail designs, innovative free flying furlers and custom hardware.
The KZ Marine Group product range includes KZ Racefurlers, SeaRig, Leisurefurl and KZ Kustom.
