Harold A. Schrock, longtime president of Starcraft Marine, passed away on May 12. He was 97.
An industry icon, Schrock enjoyed a long career in the boating industry. His first job was at his father's boatbuilding business, then known as the Star Tank Company, and he worked his way up to the president's position. "Harold told us his first job was painting galvanized steel boats-hand painted in those days," said Doug Smoker, president of Smoker Craft, in a statement. "He quickly moved up in the organization, ultimately becoming a successful leader of the company.”
Cinda McKinney, Smoker Craft chairman, said her father had a “tremendous sense of family and community,” and donated generously to organizations across Indiana. "Those values remain today,” she said in the statement. “We pride ourselves in our employees, their work ethic and craftsmanship. My father has left a legacy, not only for us, but for the boating industry as a whole. He will be missed."
Star Craft dates back to 1903 when Schrock's father, Arthur, launched the company. Starcraft-Smoker Craft Inc consolidated in 2007. The company builds aluminum, pontoon and fiberglass runabouts under the brand names Smoker Craft, Starcraft, Sylvan, Sunchaser, Starweld and American Angler.
